Worldfest this weekend

WorldFest 2007 runs through Saturday at MacArthur Park, located at 9th and Commerce streets in Little Rock.

WorldFest is a two-day multi-cultural festival celebrating diversity both in Arkansas and as part of a global community through food, music, dance, art, crafts, culture and education.

This year’s celebration is also in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Central High School Integration and the courage of the Little Rock Nine.

The WorldFest theme is “The World is Watching Us! From Civil Rights to Human Rights: Celebrating Our Diversity” and is the inspiration for all aspects of WorldFest.

Admission is free.

Fall swap meet slated at Petit Jean

The 10th Annual Petit Jean Fall Swap Meet runs through Saturday at the Museum of Automobiles, Petit Jean Mountain. There will be 1,500 vendor spaces available filled with cars, parts, antiques, arts and crafts and more.

The Legacy Project exhibition this month

The Legacy Project, by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj runs through Sept. 30 at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre in Little Rock. The Legacy Project is a world premiere of a new work commissioned by The Rep in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1957 desegregation of Little Rock’s Central High.

Culled from dozens of interviews with those who experienced events first hand, The Legacy Project is the powerful, transcendent story of the impact — the legacy — of 1957 on Little Rock today.

Pumpkin Patch open in Mayflower

Kountry Kuzins Punkin Patch and General Store, located 10 miles east of Mayflower on Hwy. 89 South, between Mayflower and Cato/Jacksonvlle, runs through Oct. 31. Saturday, Sept., 29 is John Deere Tractor Day.

Pumpkins, wagon rides, hay maze, cow train rides, General Store with jams and jellies, homemade items, famous hand-painted Razorback pumpkins, fall wreaths and décor and concessions will be available.

Weekend events include horseshoe and cow chip throwing, greased pig chase and much more. Live music on “Pickin’-n-Playin’” Sundays.

Admission is $5 for wagon ride with pumpkin ($6 on weekends); $5 for morning hay maze; $6 for evening hay maze and $2 for the cow train.

Corn maze open through Nov. 4

The 3rd Annual Schaefers Farm Corn Maze, located at Schaefers Farm at Lollie, runs through Nov. 4. Schaefers Farm Corn Maze is a 12-acre corn maze (puzzle). There is a smaller maze for kids. Scenic hayrides along the Arkansas River are available. Flashlight nights and special Halloween events are slated. A concession, hand washing stations, porta-potties, picnic area are available. The pumpkin patch is across the road. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $3 for ages 3 to 5, $5 for ages 6 to 12, $2.50 for the kids’ maze and $3 for the scenic hay ride. Mayan Medallion (IP Gallery) ru Beautiful to Look at, Beautiful to Hold: Blown and Pressed Glass from the Permanent Collection runs through May 11, 2008, at the Historic Arkansas Museum in Little Rock. Art of glass-making with examples from the museum’s permanent collection. An opening reception will be held on September 14, 5–8 p.m. in conjunction with 2nd Friday Art Night. Admission is free.
