Date set for Commander's golf tournament

Ducks Unlimited fund-raiser

The Jacksonville committee of Ducks Unlimited will host its 22nd annual Banquet and Live Auction Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. in the old Wal-Mart building on Loop Road in Jacksonville. Matt Robinson, committee chairman of Jacksonville, said proceeds from the event will go to support DU’s wetlands and waterfowl habitat conservation efforts in Arkansas, the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Children are welcome to attend the event and families are encouraged to get their children involved in the Greenwing youth program for Ducks Unlimited. 'Ugly Duckling' to be presented

Arkansas Art Center Children’s Theatre will present “The Ugly Duckling,” through Sept. 30 in Little Rock.

When Mother Duck’s eggs hatch, the duck yard gets a big, gray, ugly surprise! The pretty little ducklings start flapping and squawking over the arrival of their fowl brother — Ugly! The Ugly Duckling runs away. Admission is $14 adults and $11 children. For more information visit www.arkarts.com.


History of Herk to be presented

The Jacksonville Museum of Military History will present a War Stories Lecture Series on The History of the Herk at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20.

Bob Ruffin will outline the history of the C-130. Whether it’s rescuing hostages at Entebbe, a prison raid in North Vietnam, delivering relief supplies to victims of hurricanes, famine and floods, or airdropping wrapped Christmas tree to a remote villages in the Netherlands, the C-130 has “…been there, done that!”
